Over the past few months, year five and six children have been working with the company “Debate Mate”, who have been teaching the children how to debate in a polite, professional, and comprehensive way. The Debate Mate team teach us that it is OK to disagree with someone elses point of view and it is OK to put your point across to them so that they understand why you disagree and how your opinion differs from theirs.
Debate Mate offers a range of programmes and competitions to participating schools, which have been designed by the CEO and founder Margaret McCabe, a former commercial barrister, in conjunction with world champion debaters and their Education Development Director, a former Whole School Literacy Co-ordinator.
Debate Mate organise a London based competition with schools in the area who debate against eachother. The debate teams from each school taking part will debate against other schools in knock out rounds throughout the year. The school that wins the London debate tournament will go on to compete with schools across the country as London’s representative.
